The American Heart Association Teen of Impact Campaign to support GO RED!

KIDS Community, in partnership with NC Elite Volleyball Club, is excited to support the efforts of The American Heart Association in raising awareness of heart health and driving research and development of cardiovascular disease treatments and cures!

For too long, cardiovascular disease has been thought to only affect older generations. But the reality is that heart disease and stroke can affect anyone at any age, and shockingly, heart attacks are on the rise in younger populations!

As part of our PARTNER IN HEALTH Program, the KIDS Community Youth Advisory Board will be working to raise money for the American Heart Association, while receiving training in program development, implementation and fundraising through the KIDS Community DARE TO LEAD Program.

"I am excited about working as a Teen of Impact with the American Heart Association because I believe in the transformative power of promoting health and wellness with and among fellow teenagers. Adolescence is a critical stage in one's life, and establishing positive habits during this time can have a profound impact on long-term well-being. I am eager to contribute to a community where every teen has the opportunity to thrive physically and emotionally. "

Coming in 2024...

We have been working hard to grow opportunities for youth in the community.  Take a look at what's planned for 2024!

Partner in Health

KIDS Community has joined with the American Heart Association through its Cour Vitae Program and Teen of Impact campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of fitness and heart health and bring CPR training to youth in the community via access to training material and fitness, health and wellness opportunities.

JUST PLAY!

KIDS Community is committed to providing sports and play opportunities for local youth. In 2024 we will again partner with local athletics facilities and NC Elite Volleyball Club to support these opportunities. Youth sports leadership opportunities for teens are also part of  JUST PLAY!, as well as program and youth athlete sponsorship opportunities!

Food Insecurity

KIDS Community continues to address food insecurity in our community via food drives and other food security activities and in collaboration with local partners. In 2024 we will explore opportunities to provide support for summer lunch programs. Contact us if you want to partner to help with this initiative!

Dare to Lead

KIDS Community Dare to Lead is an empowering program that nurtures the leadership potential within our youth by providing a platform for them to make a meaningful impact in their communities. This initiative focuses on cultivating leadership skills through hands-on experiences in community service and engagement.

KIDS Community, Inc. is excited to announce that we have received funding for and launched a research and community action program aimed to assess the status of community-based youth sports in the evolving landscape of expanding club sports and the professionalization of youth sports, and impacts of loss of access to youth sports on health and wellness, particularly in underserved communities.  This program also explores potential solutions to address funding for and access to community-based youth sports. Why Youth and Teens Should Participate in Community Activities and Community Service

  1. There are many compelling reasons youth should engage in their community.  Below are just a few!
Youth who participate in community service and other community activities are more likely to develop a strong sense of social responsibility and commitment to their community (Schneider, et al., 2010). This can lead to an increased sense of belonging and connection to their community, which can have a positive impact on mental health and overall well-being (Berzonsky, et al., 2015).
  2. Youth participation in community activities can also help to develop important life skills such as leadership, communication, problem-solving, and teamwork (Gallagher, et al., 2014). These skills can be transferable to other areas of life and can help young people to be more successful in their academic and professional pursuits.
  3. Youth participation in community service can also help to foster a sense of empathy and understanding of the needs of others. By working with disadvantaged or marginalized groups, young people can develop a deeper appreciation for diversity and a greater understanding of the issues faced by others (Gallagher, et al., 2014).
  4. Participating in community activities and service can also have a positive impact on academic performance. Studies have shown that youth who engage in community service and other community activities are more likely to perform better in school and have higher grades (Gallagher, et al., 2014).
